The Sustainability Office has begun work at the D. Serikbayev East Kazakhstan Technical University – a new platform where students, graduates, and teachers join forces for the future.

The office is headed by sustainability specialist Arina Polyakova. The special value of the new center lies in the fact that its activities are largely based on the enthusiasm and professionalism of our students and graduates. The office team includes graduates of the Life Safety and Environmental Protection program – Ekaterina Strokova and Dana Sovetbekova, a 4th-year student of the same program, chair of the “Clover” eco-club – Valeria Parubchishina, a 4th-year student of the “Software Developer” program at the Higher IT College – Almaz Amirkazin.

The office's goals and objectives:

  • developing and implementing sustainable development strategies at the university;
  • integrating the principles of the “green economy” and social responsibility into teaching and research;
  • implementing projects to reduce the carbon footprint, save energy, and increase resource efficiency;
  • supporting student initiatives and developing a culture of “green” lifestyles;
  • cooperating with public and private partners to promote environmental ideas in the region.

The office operates in accordance with the UN's global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These goals are an important part of EKTU's educational and scientific policy: ensuring high-quality and accessible education, developing innovation and green technologies, fostering a responsible attitude towards the environment, and training specialists capable of solving the challenges of a sustainable future.

The new office will become a hub for ideas, knowledge, and people. Here, student initiatives find support, and bold ideas are turned into real projects that contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals at the university and in the region.
