As part of a working visit to Germany, representatives of D. Serikbayev East Kazakhstan Technical University (EKTU) visited several strategic universities and research centers to discuss prospects for the development of the Kazakhstan-German Institute of Science and Technology, international cooperation, academic mobility, and joint scientific projects.
The delegation included Associate Professor of the International School of Engineering Zh.S. Onalbayeva, Professor of the Veritas Center of Excellence N.A. Kulenova, and Associate Professor of the Veritas Center of Excellence M.A. Sadenova.
Meeting at Brandenburg University of Technology
One of the key events of the program was a visit to Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus–Senftenberg, where EKTU representatives met with Dr. Ralph Ossenbrink and Dashkin Turabov. During the negotiations, the parties discussed further development of cooperation, including: submission of joint international projects; development of the Kazakhstan-German Institute of Science and Technology; organization of internships for students and faculty members; expansion of academic exchange programs.
Currently, three EKTU students are already studying at Brandenburg University of Technology under the Erasmus+ semester exchange program. It is also worth noting that EKTU is currently recruiting students interested in studying in Germany next semester.
Visit to the Fraunhofer Institute in Berlin
In the following days, the delegation visited the Fraunhofer Institute for Production Systems and Design Technology in Berlin, where they became acquainted with the laboratories and current research areas of the institute.
Institute staff members Oliver Krumpek and Renan Oss Giacomelli presented projects in the field of international cooperation and scientific research.
It should be noted that EKTU and the Fraunhofer Institute, together with the Technical University of Munich, have already submitted the joint project application KONFORM KAZ. The project aims to establish an academic technology transfer center at EKTU for the standardized digitalization of industrial processes.
Prospects for Cooperation with the Technical University of Berlin
During the visit to the Technical University of Berlin, EKTU representatives met with Professor Dr.-Ing. Jörg Krüger and became acquainted with the activities of the Department of Industrial Automation.
A meeting was also held with Evelina Skurski, Head of the International Scientific Cooperation Department at the Technical University of Berlin. During the meeting, the parties discussed prospects for expanding international partnerships, developing joint scientific initiatives, and opportunities for participation in international educational and research programs.
Researcher Erik Sörqvist and his team presented modern developments in the application of artificial intelligence in medicine, as well as projects in the field of machine vision.
In addition, Mustafa Anil Safran spoke about the activities of the Engineering Faculty of the Turkish-German University (TDU) and invited EKTU representatives to participate in an international conference to be held in Türkiye in 2027.
Following the meetings, two priority areas for further cooperation with the Technical University of Berlin and the Fraunhofer Institute were identified: medical engineering,smart agriculture.
The working visit became an important step in strengthening the international partnership ties of EKTU and the Kazakhstan-German Institute of Science and Technology, expanding opportunities for joint research, academic mobility, and the implementation of innovative projects.
