On 19 September, students and faculty members of D. Serikbayev East Kazakhstan Technical University took part in environmental activities marking World Cleanup Day. The events were held as part of Taza Qazaqstan, Kazakhstan’s nationwide environmental campaign.
At the Independence Monument in Ust-Kamenogorsk, volunteers joined East Kazakhstan Region Akim Nurymbet Saktaganov in planting young trees. A total of 250 saplings were planted during the event, which brought together more than 700 participants, including nearly 200 university and college students.
The university community also contributed to a cleanup along the banks of the Irtysh River. EKTU students and faculty collected litter from the riverside area, helping protect one of the region’s most important natural assets.
Such initiatives go beyond improving public spaces. They encourage young people to develop environmental awareness, take personal responsibility for their surroundings and contribute to the well-being of their community. Working side by side also demonstrates how collective action can produce visible and lasting results.
Participation in the campaign reflects EKTU’s commitment to environmental sustainability. The University consistently supports initiatives focused on urban greening, the protection of water ecosystems, responsible use of natural resources and the development of environmental awareness among young people.
By taking an active role in Taza Qazaqstan, EKTU students showed that meaningful change begins with practical action. Every planted tree and every restored area is a tangible contribution to a cleaner and greener future for East Kazakhstan.
