Тhe leadership and representatives of Nazarbayev University paid a working visit to D. Serikbayev East Kazakhstan Technical University. The visit focused on strengthening academic and research ties between the two universities and exploring opportunities for joint research and innovation projects.

The Nazarbayev University delegation was led by President Waqar Ahmad. The guests were welcomed by the EKTU leadership and representatives of the University’s research divisions.

During the visit, the delegation learned about EKTU’s research infrastructure and scientific and technological capabilities. The guests visited the SMART ENGINEERING Competence Centre, the Research Centre for Protective and Functional Coatings, the Competence Centre for Construction and Building Technologies, and the VERITAS Centre for Teaching Excellence.

The representatives of Nazarbayev University were also introduced to the International Luban Workshop and the Smart Driving Technology Engineering Centre. These facilities support education and research in intelligent transport systems, mechanical engineering, digital technologies and the practical training of engineering professionals.

The Nazarbayev University representatives highly praised EKTU’s educational and research potential, the level of training of its students and faculty, and the work of its laboratories and research centres. They also expressed their interest in implementing joint projects.

EKTU has well-established research schools and a promising generation of early-career researchers. Supporting their ideas, facilitating the exchange of expertise and creating opportunities to turn promising developments into practical projects could become important areas of future cooperation.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the development of research-based education, the implementation of joint scientific projects, stronger academic cooperation between researchers and students, and support for innovation and technology transfer. They also emphasised the importance of combining the universities’ research potential to address the current needs of the region’s leading industrial enterprises.

Nazarbayev University’s Long-Term Development Strategy for 2026–2031 places particular emphasis on contributing to the transformation of Kazakhstan and its regions through research, research-based education, innovation and knowledge exchange. In this context, stronger partnerships between the country’s leading universities create new opportunities to introduce research outcomes into the real economy and support the technological development of Kazakhstan’s regions.

For EKTU, cooperation with Nazarbayev University opens new opportunities for joint research, the integration of scientific centres and laboratory capabilities, the exchange of expertise, and the involvement of early-career researchers in promising projects.

The working visit marked an important step towards developing a long-term partnership between the two universities and launching new initiatives connecting education, research, innovation and industry.
