From September 22 to 26, 2025, D. Serikbayev East Kazakhstan Technical University (EKTU) will host the II Kazakhstan–German Week “Science and Education: Partnership between Kazakhstan and Germany.”

This landmark event brings together leading universities of Kazakhstan and Germany, as well as key organizations in the fields of science, education, and industry. Among the distinguished participants are:

  • Nurymbet Saktaganov, Akim of East Kazakhstan Region;
  • Sayasat Nurbek, Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan (online format);
  • Monika Iversen, Deputy Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Kazakhstan;
  • Volrad Rommel, President of the Kazakh-German University;
  • Akerke Ablaikhanqyzy, Deputy Chair of the Committee for Higher and Postgraduate Education of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education;
  • vice-rectors of Kazakhstani universities, representatives of technical colleges, industrial enterprises, and EKTU’s academic staff.

The key milestone of the week was the signing of the Consortium of Universities of Kazakhstan and Germany, which now includes: EKTU, the Kazakh-German University, Ruhr University Bochum, TU Bergakademie Freiberg, Clausthal University of Technology, TU Dortmund, and the University of Duisburg-Essen.

The Consortium will serve as a leading platform for research and knowledge transfer in the fields of mining, geology, circular extraction, smart materials, energy, and environmental technologies.

A highlight of the week was the opening of the Alexander von Humboldt Interdisciplinary Center for Sustainable Development — a new scientific hub for international research, academic exchange, and innovation implementation.

The participation of German organizations operating in Kazakhstan — DAAD, DENA, the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, DFG, CASIB, and the Goethe-Institut — opens up broad opportunities for launching joint research projects, academic mobility programs, and attracting external funding.

The Week fully aligns with the priorities outlined in President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s Address “Kazakhstan in the Era of Artificial Intelligence,” which emphasizes the development of science, innovation, and the training of specialists for the industries of the future.

For East Kazakhstan, this event carries strategic importance. As President Tokayev has noted, the mining and metallurgical complex is a reliable pillar of Kazakhstan’s industrial framework. Today, the foundation for the sector’s future growth lies in advancing science, innovation, and human capital.

The II Kazakhstan–German Week at EKTU marks an important step toward building a strong scientific bridge between Kazakhstan and Germany, strengthening international collaboration, fostering new technologies, and shaping the industry of the future.
