D. Serikbayev East Kazakhstan Technical University held a ceremony dedicated to Knowledge Day, bringing together first-year students, parents, faculty members, staff, alumni and university partners.
For the new students, the event marked their first introduction to the university community and the beginning of an important journey filled with new knowledge, opportunities and professional discoveries.
Saule Rakhmetullina, Chair of the Management Board and Rector of EKTU, congratulated the participants on the start of the academic year. She encouraged first-year students to pursue their goals with confidence, demonstrate initiative and make full use of the University’s educational, research and creative opportunities.
The ceremony was attended by Shakarim Buktugutov, Member of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan; Aidar Sadyrbayev, Head of the Internal Policy Department of East Kazakhstan Region; Andrey Lazarev, Managing Director for Administrative Affairs at Kazzinc LLP; and Alima Akylbek, Deputy Head of the Education Department of East Kazakhstan Region.
The guests extended their congratulations and words of encouragement to the students, parents, faculty members and University staff.
The participation of EKTU alumni gave the event special symbolic significance. Shakarim Buktugutov is a graduate of the Ust-Kamenogorsk Institute of Civil Engineering and Road Construction, from which the history of today’s EKTU began.
The representatives of industry, science and technology businesses attending the ceremony also included University alumni who have achieved professional success and are ready to share their experience with a new generation of students.
This continuity reflects EKTU’s special role in the development of the region and the country. Over the decades, the University has evolved from an institute of civil engineering and road construction into a modern research-oriented technical university. At the same time, it has preserved its strong engineering traditions and expanded its training programmes for industry, science, digital technologies and innovative business.
One of the central events of the day was the ceremonial parade of the University’s schools, the Military Department and the Higher IT College. It gave first-year students an opportunity to learn more about EKTU’s educational programmes, research potential and the wide range of opportunities available within the University community.
Special attention was given to students who had entered EKTU with high scores on the Unified National Testing. They received words of encouragement from representatives of industry, science and business: Nurlan Ramazanov, Director of the Sogra Thermal Power Plant and an EKTU doctoral student; Anuar Kussainov, Head of KAB Systems and a doctoral student; and Leonid Izmailov, a master’s student who has achieved significant results in scientific and technological projects.
One of the most heart-warming moments of the celebration was a special greeting for international students in their native languages. Today, EKTU brings together young people from different countries, creating an environment for intercultural dialogue, the exchange of ideas, new friendships and joint projects.
The “Welcome, Students!” ceremony marked a vibrant beginning to the new academic year and once again demonstrated that EKTU is a university where traditions are preserved, generations come together and young people build their professional futures.
Welcome to EKTU! Happy Knowledge Day and best wishes for the new academic year!
