Specialty “Translation Skills Training”
Currently, a number of enterprises of the Republic of Kazakhstan (primarily oil-producing enterprises, joint ventures and representative offices of foreign companies) address a request to D.Serikbayev East Kazakhstan State Technical University in order to send them young specialists in technical disciplines, who have a good professional and computer training, as well as a good knowledge of a foreign language in the field of their professional activities.
East Kazakhstan State Technical University developed the concept, curriculum and programmes of the disciplines to prepare students in the specialty “Translation Skills Training”. And in 2002-2003 academic year in the structure of Institute of Postgraduate Training and New Educational Technologies (IPT NET) at EKSTU there was established a department of extended education for the realization of the programmes for translators training with the following qualification “Translator in Professional Communication”.
Under this program, a parallel foreign language teaching of students 8-10 hours per week in the course of 4 semesters for 2 years is provided. The total number of hours of the training is about 1000 hours. Persons, who successfully completed the education in the specialty “Translation Skills Training” get certificates of the state model of an advanced education with a record “Translator in Professional Communication” with transcripts.
This programme is of great interest among university students. Due to the limited capacity of the department we hold a competitive selection by the criteria of good knowledge of a foreign language, in accordance with which groups of students are formed. We attract the best qualified faculty of foreign languages sub-department to conduct studies in Translation Department. We apply authentic teaching aids, communicative teaching methods. The main contingent of students is university students, school graduates, as well as employees of different enterprises. Classes are mainly held in the evenings.
The department is equipped with computers, has a modern information-linguistic centre. Our students show a great interest and wish to intensive study of a foreign language. Today, graduates of translation department represent specialists of the new formation - the technical elite , who, along with deep professional knowledge in their field, are fluent in a foreign language. Entrance examinations are held annually in May. Welcome, we wish You good luck on the entrance exams!
