One of the indicators of strengthening Kazakhstan’s scientific potential is the Kazakh-German Institute of Science and Technology (KGIST), established in 2024 on the basis of D. Serikbayev East Kazakhstan Technical University. This project emerged as a result of the signing of a framework agreement at the Forum of Rectors of Kazakh and German Universities, held with the participation of President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and President of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
The main goal of the institute is to introduce advanced German expertise in engineering and education, which will create new momentum for the sustainable development of the region and for enhancing the economic and human capital of the East Kazakhstan region.
Objectives of KGIST
- Development of a joint scientific and educational space between Kazakhstan and Germany
- Support for young researchers and their integration into the international scientific community
- Implementation of advanced engineering and technological solutions
- Strengthening the scientific potential of the East Kazakhstan region
- Training specialists in strategically important fields — metallurgy, mining, geology, sustainable development, materials science, etc.
