Alexander von Humboldt Interdisciplinary Centre for Sustainable Development

From September 22 to 26, 2025, our university became the site of the II Kazakh-German Week "Science and Education: Partnership between Kazakhstan and Germany"

A special event of the week was the opening of the Alexander Humboldt Interdisciplinary Center for Sustainable Development, a new scientific platform for international research, academic exchanges and innovation.

The Office of Sustainable Development of the CGTU was engaged in the preparation for the opening of the center together with the university administration, which underlines the university's commitment to the principles of sustainable development and international cooperation.

The main mission of the Humboldt Center is to promote scientific, educational and cultural cooperation between Kazakhstan and the international community.

Our main goals are collaborative research and innovation, academic mobility, international events, intercultural communication, and regional leadership.

The Center strives to bring people and ideas together for a more sustainable future.

We have a lot of interesting plans.

The Center aims to:

  • Launch joint environmental research projects with European and Kazakh partners;
  • Organize a series of Humboldt lectures with the participation of international experts in the field of sustainable development and climate studies;
  • Create a platform for the education and research of young scientists;
  • Support student initiatives and volunteer programs that connect science with a real impact on society

We are confident that the Humboldt Center will become a growth point for science, education and a sustainable future!

The Office for Sustainable Development of the D. Serikbayev Moscow State Technical University also conducted an interview with an outstanding German scientist, Professor Ottmar Ette (University of Potsdam, Germany). The professor shared his impressions of our university and the opening of the Humboldt Center, and also spoke about the priorities of his scientific activities.

We thank Professor Ottmar Ette for his time and interesting conversation, which became a valuable contribution to the development of scientific dialogue between Kazakhstan and Germany.
