Project abstract
For the first time in Kazakhstan, the method of isotopic hydrology will be applied to assess the contamination of surface and groundwater by heavy metals. Against the background of the significant impact of heavy metals on surface and groundwater in the East Kazakhstan region, the use of this method makes it possible to identify potential risks of further pollution of water bodies. Thus, the project will make a significant contribution to local and regional water resources management, which highlights its relevance and novelty.
Objective
To develop recommendations for reducing the impact of industrial enterprises on water bodies based on the assessment of the quality of surface and groundwater within the territory of Ust-Kamenogorsk city.
Expected and achieved results of the project:
|
2025 year |
Based on the collected literature and archival data, areas with a high risk of contamination are identified, and sampling points are designated. Geophysical studies have been carried out and the features of the geological environment are being evaluated. |
|
2026 year |
Wells have been drilled, samples of surface and groundwater have been taken, the content of heavy metals has been determined, and isotope analysis is being carried out. The migration of heavy metals in the aquatic environment and the role of bottom sediments were assessed. |
|
2027 year |
Based on the results of water samples, the content of heavy metals was determined, and additional isotope analyses were performed. The vulnerability of drinking water sources in Ust-Kamenogorsk to pollution has been assessed, and proposed measures for their protection and management have been prepared. |
