As part of expanding international academic cooperation, our university hosted an official visit from a distinguished scholar, Professor Carsten Drebenstedt, representing TU Bergakademie Freiberg (Technische Universität Bergakademie Freiberg, Germany).During his visit, the Professor delivered lectures and practical sessions for undergraduate and master's students of the "Mining Engineering" educational program in "Fundamentals of Open-Pit Mining Technology" and "Integrated Mechanization of Underground and Open-Pit Mining".
A key outcome of the visit was the further development of research collaboration: Professor Carsten Drebenstedt agreed to serve as a scientific supervisor for one of our university's doctoral students. The research focuses on a critical issue for the East Kazakhstan region - rock mass stability, management of mined-out areas, and backfilling/remediation of underground voids formed during extraction and mine closures. TU Bergakademie Freiberg possesses extensive global expertise and cutting-edge technologies in this field, opening brand-new opportunities for joint research and addressing the region's environmental and technological challenges.
The itinerary included working meetings with Marzhan Rakhymberdina (Dean of the School of Earth Sciences), Zhadyra Konurbayeva (Board Member - Vice-Rector for Science and Innovation), and Arayly Sarsembayeva (Board Member - Vice-Rector for International Cooperation). The parties discussed future prospects for cooperation in education, science, academic exchange, and high-level researcher training.
Professor Drebenstedt also visited the Bakyrchik Mining Enterprise, gaining valuable insights into production processes and operational management. Furthermore, he explored the regional history, scientific legacy, and cultural heritage during a guided tour of the university's "Altyn Altai" Museum.
As a special gift to the university, Professor Carsten Drebenstedt presented his scientific publications to the library collection for undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students, as well as faculty members.
