As part of the implementation of project BR24992854 "Development and implementation of competitive science-based technologies to ensure sustainable development of mining and metallurgy industry East Kazakhstan region" employees of D. Serikbayev East Kazakhstan Technical University participated in field research as part of an interdisciplinary working group.

The group included O. Petrova, Zh. Idrisheva, G. Daumova, V. Zuev, I. Denisov, T. Toktaganov, N. Karaguzhin, E. Strokova, and A. Polyakova.

The route covered key natural and industrial areas of the region, including the village of Zubovka, the tailings storage facility of the Maleevskaya Concentration Plant operated by Kazzinc LLP, Glubokoe district, specifically, the Glubochanka and Krasnoyarka rivers. The group also visited the Pervomaisky village and the area of the former Irtysh Chemical and Metallurgical Plant and its associated tailings site. Further stops included the villages of Ognevka and Belogorsky in the Ulan District, where several mining and metallurgical facilities are located. Additional investigations of soil and surface water were conducted in the city of Altay, including the area near the Altay Concentration Plant.

During the trip, valuable data were collected, measurements were taken, and site inspections were carried out. These efforts are crucial for assessing the environmental condition and supporting the sustainable development of East Kazakhstan. Fieldwork included surface gamma surveys, collection of soil, surface water, bottom sediment, and vegetation samples, as well as rapid soil analysis using a modern portable Olympus Vanta C X-ray fluorescence analyzer.

The results of these studies will serve as the basis for materials and recommendations for local authorities and will also contribute to the university’s scientific resources in the fields of ecology, geoecology, and green technologies.

The implementation of this project is an important step toward building a sustainable regional economy and maintaining ecological balance.
